Est. $30,000-$32,000 Ming Dynasty Doucai Glazed Chicken Cup W/Six Character Chenghua Reign Mark (From a Vietnamese Royal Family) - This impressive stem cup is elaborately decorated in the Doucai style in overglazed red, green, blue and yellow enamels. "Chicken Cups" were originally created during the Chenghua reign, when quality of porcelains was at its peak. They were produced in incredibly low quantities and are extremely rare to find offered for sale. The chicken cup is one of the finest and rarest of the Chinese ceramics and are one of the most desirable possessions for serious collectors. The cup is decorated with a two continuous scenes of a rooster and his hen out in a garden with their chicks. The scenes are divided by underglazed blue rocks and flowers and the other side with a rose bush and a blue garden rock. The piece bears the six character Ming Dynasty Chenghua period marking underneath the base. In 2014, a similarly decorated and marked chicken cup sold at auction for over $36 million. This piece comes from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam). Measurements: 3.25"H x 3.25"D.
