Est. $12,500-$13,000 Vietnamese Bleu de Hue Fenghuang & Crane Plate W/Poem & Four Character Marking (From a Vietnamese Royal Family) - This porcelain plate is elaborately decorated in a vibrant cobalt blue underglaze. The center of the dish is decorated with a crane standing under a Prunus Mume (plum blossom) tree. The crane signifies longevity, happiness and smooth flight, or a smooth path through life, and plum blossom represents the value of endurance. The five-petaled flower also symbolizes the five blessings: longevity, prosperity, health, virtue and good living. It is also decorated with a poem, and a border of three stylized fenghuang among cloud wisps. It is believed that the Fenghuang only appears in areas or places that are blessed with utmost peace and prosperity or happiness. It is a symbol of high virtue and grace, and is said to represent power sent from the heavens to the Empress. The base of the plate is undecorated, and bears a four character marking in underglazed blue. This piece has excellent investment potential, as it is thought by experts around the world and avid collectors that due to the rapid modernization of Vietnam, Vietnamese antiques will within the next ten years be more valuable than Chinese antiques. This piece comes from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam). Measurements: 7.25" diameter x 1"H.
