Est. $8,500-$9,000 Howard Hughes Signed Document for Record Setting Flight Around the World Signed July 7, 1938 - This document is the official request from aviator Howard Hughes for permission to begin his world record setting flight around the world to promote the 1938 World's Fair in New York City. The document releases the city of New York from any liability for "injuries or damages that may occur to persons or property, including the said airplane as a result of said flight or take-offs," and acknowledges that the flight would be taken at Hughes' own risk and responsibility. Hughes enlisted his Lockheed 14 Lodestar Monoplane and a crew of four to fly around the world, originating from Floyd Bennett Field in New York. The flight began on July 10th, 1938 just three days after he signed this historic document, and returned on July 14th, 1938 making Hughes the most famous aviator of his day. The document is signed by Hughes at the conclusion in black ink, and is also signed by flight engineer Albert Lodwick. Measurements: 8.5" x 11".
