Est. $9,000-$10,000 Vietnamese Bleu de Hue Porcelain Lidded Teapot W/Metal Rims & Handle (From a Vietnamese Royal Family) - This porcelain lidded teapot is elaborately decorated in vibrant underglazed blue with an ornate scene of a writhing dragon against a dense background of stylized clouds, in pursuit of a flaming pearl. The teapot has a metal square handle and metal rims around the lid, lip and spout, as selected vessels were finished with rims of silver as early as the Han dynasty to set them apart from the ordinary and to make them suitable for high class clients. The spout is also marked with a "Tho" (longevity) seal on the front of the piece. Most "Bleu de Hue" porcelain was ordered by the Vietnamese court by way of diplomatic missions to China, and most was produced in Jingdezhen with special designs and marks. This very high quality porcelain was ordered from China for the court use. Although Chinese artisans executed the painting, Vietnamese rulers dictated the designs. Each ruler ordered ceramics of his own liking for use in his court, as well as presentation pieces to give to members of royal families and mandarin officials. The base of the jar is undecorated, and has an unglazed foot. This piece comes from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam). Measurements: 4.5"H (7"H w/handle) x 6.5"W.
