Est. $25,000-$30,000 Prince "Purple Rain" Set Used Long Purple Lace Overcoat W/Letter of Provenance - This beautiful lace overcoat was used on the set of the 1984 American rock musical drama film, "Purple Rain". The film stars Prince in his acting debut playing "The Kid," a quasi-biographical character as the film was developed to showcase Prince's talents and contains several concert sequences. The film grossed more than $68 million at the box office in the United States and over $80 million worldwide, thus making a large profit on its $7.2 million budget. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score, the last to receive the award. The overcoat is constructed of a purple lace material, with silver embroidered details. The piece will be accompanied by a copy of the original letter of provenance dated 1999 from the original owner of the piece, who states that her mother-in-law worked as a set decorator for Warner Bros. Studios and gave her the piece as a gift. Please note: this piece underwent a master restoration by one of Hollywood's leading designers, Mr. Keith Holman. Mr. Holman worked for Michael Jackson, Mary Wilon of The Supremes and many more.
