Est. $15,000-$18,000 Elvis Presley's Brown Velour Lansky's "Superfly" Hat Given to Sonny West W/(2) LOAs (Featured in Graceland Auction) - This brown velour fedora is made by Beaverbrook, Ltd., and was purchased by Elvis Presley at Lansky Brothers in the early 1970s. The fedora features a circular band trim and round gold-metal colored accent disc, and is embossed with the Beaverbrook logo and "genuine velour" in gold on the interior seam, along with the Beaverbrook crest appearing on the inside crown. As with many of ElvisÂ’ fashions and jewelry, this hat was passed along to Memphis Mafia member Sonny West before it was acquired by collector Mike L. Moon. The fedora will be accompanied by a notarized certificate of authenticity dated Oct. 23, 1981 and signed by Sonny West which documents the sale of the hat to Moon. According to West, before he purchased the hat Elvis had recently seen the film Across 110th Street with the word "Shazam" in it, and he used that word to describe this hat. The characters in the film wore this style of hat, and the sleek, tough look that is exemplified in this piece is likely why Elvis chose it and lovingly referred to is as "Shazam". The fedora will also be accompanied by a second letter of authenticity from "EP Archives" of Las Vegas, Nevada, indicating that the offered hat was among the items purchased from the Mike Moon collection in 2018. This hat was also featured in the Auction at Graceland in January, 2019.
