Est. $150,000-$175,000 Vitnamese Nguyen Dynasty Minh Mang Period Phap Lam Hue Imperial Palace Vase (Has Four Character Minh Mang Reign Mark) - This incredibly rare piece of Vietnamese history is an imperial palace vase from the Minh Mang reign of the Nguyen Dynasty of Vietnam. The vase is elaborately decorated in the phap lam style which was gained popularity with the Minh Mang Emperor and decorated the Royal Palace and items for daily use of the royal family. The technique was brought into Vietnam from China, and used a copper core coated with colored enamel that is highly durable, varied in form, and vivid in color and decoration. This stunning piece truly belongs in a museum, as it is thought that the technique was lost in the collapse of Nguyen dynasty, and Hue enamelware now can be seen only on the old royal architectures or museum objects. This stunning vase is decorated with the highest attention to detail, with an ornate peony and crabapple blossom motif. The peony was considered 'the king of flowers' or 'the flower of wealth and honor' and was associated with the imperial family, and the crabapple and peonies combined suggest the phrase "may the whole family achieve wealth and honor". The vase bears the four character marking reading "made during the Minh Mang reign" in red underglaze on the base of the piece. This piece has excellent investment potential, as it is thought by experts around the world and avid collectors that due to the rapid modernization of Vietnam, Vietnamese antiques will within the next ten years be more valuable than Chinese antiques. According to some of the most expert collectors in the world, what used to sell for hundreds are now selling for tens of thousands. Measurements (approximate): 32"H x 14"W.
