Est. $95,000-$98,500 Cham Pa 12th C. Sandstone Shiva & Parvati Sculpture Recovered in Binh Dinh, Vietnam - This incredible piece is a sandstone sculpture believed to have been created during the Cham Pa Kingdom in the 12th century. The Cham Pa Kingdom formed during the breakup of the Han dynasty of China, when the Han official in charge of the region established his own kingdom around the area of what is now the city of Hue. The kingdom extended across the coast of what is today central and southern Vietnam from the 2nd century before being absorbed and annexed by Vietnamese Emperor Minh Mang in 1832. This sculpture was carved from sandstone, and was recovered in Binh Dinh, Vietnam. The dominant religion of the Cham people was Hinduism and was overwhelmingly Shaiva, which revered Shiva as the supreme being. This Shiva and Parvati sculpture is in stunning condition for its age, and truly belongs in a museum or with the most astute collector. Measurements (approximate): 22"H x 19"W. The weight of this piece is approximately 47 Kgs.
