Est. $65,000-$70,000 Set of (4) 15th C. Italian Walnut Savonarola Chairs Decorated W/Vulgar Latin (Noble De’ Medici Family Heirloom) – These incredible chairs are thought to have been made in the 1400s, and have belonged to the De’ Medici dynasty for generations. These Savonarola (or Dante) chairs are made of Italian walnut, and have a folding design with an “X” shaped frame when viewed from the front or the side, a design which originated in medieval Italy. These chairs were in a monastery before they were acquired by a noble member of the De’ Medici family while in Piedmont. These magnificent chairs are incredibly rare, and to find four matching pieces in this stunning, museum quality condition is nearly impossible. The chairs are beautifully decorated with carved Vulgar Latin phrases and foliate accents, with an ornate medallion in the center of each chair back. This is a once in a lifetime chance to own an exquisite treasure and a true piece of history from one of the most famous and powerful family names of all time. The de' Medici Dynasty, which created the Italian Renaissance, symbolizes unparalleled historical contributions to art, politics, banking, cuisine, medicine, accounting, philanthropy, commerce, geography, agriculture, religion, textiles, and fashion. For centuries, this powerful family dominated Italy’s political, religious and cultural landscape, serving as patrons of artists and scientists like Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo, and producing four popes. These chairs will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Prince Lorenzo on his personal letterhead.
