Est. $16,000-$17,000 Pope Clement VII (Medici Dynasty) Mixed Media Pop Art Portrait by Prince Lorenzo de' Medici W/Letter of Authenticity - This mixed media painting was created by Prince Lorenzo de' Medici, and depicts Pope Clement VII. Giulio de' Medici (1478-1534) was born one month after the assassination of his father, Giuliano de' Medici, during the Pazzi conspiracy at Florence. Giulio's mother also died, leaving him an orphan. He was educated by his uncle, Lorenzo the Magnificent, and was made a Knight of Rhodes and Grand Prior of Capua. After the election of his cousin Giovanni de' Medici as Pope Leo X, in 1513, he was made Cardinal and became the prime mover of the papal policy during the whole of Leo's pontificate. He was Cardinal-Priest of S. Clemente and S. Lorenzo in Damaso. As Cardinal Protector of England, in 1521-22, he was Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Worcester. A most favored candidate at the Conclave that elected Adrian VI, after Adrian's death in September 1523, Giulio became Pope Clement VII in November 1523, and his election was received at Rome with enthusiasm. Pope Clement VII is responsible for the separation of the Anglican Church and Roman Catholic Church in 1534, when he refused grant the King Henry VIII an annulment. Prince Lorenzo de’ Medici depicts his ancestor in a beautiful fashion, using elements from the past in a modern connotation, such as the triple joined circles united by a Royal crown, a symbol used by Lorenzo the Magnificent. Prince Lorenzo created this portrait of his ancestor as part of his Renaissance Contemporary Pop Collection, with inspiration from an original 1700s engraving by Giuseppe Allegrini, who created the engraving based on a drawing by Giuseppe Zocchi. The piece is embellished with a red jewel to create the Pope's ring, and is stamped with a red Medici seal and signed by Prince Lorenzo in the lower right corner. Measurements: 38" x 29". Prince Lorenzo de Medici is the descendant and heir to one of the most famous family names in human history. The de' Medici Dynasty, which created the Italian Renaissance, symbolizes unparalleled historical contributions to art, politics, banking, cuisine, medicine, accounting, philanthropy, commerce, geography, agriculture, religion, textiles, and fashion. Prince Lorenzo is a philanthropist, international keynote speaker, television personality, chef and culinary expert, artist, and auto enthusiast, fluent in English, Italian, Spanish, Polish, and Russian. He has stated that art is his passion. This piece will come with a letter of authenticity from the Prince on his royal letterhead, and will also come with a full description of the piece by art curator Mariavelia Savino.
