Est. $25,000-$27,000 Steve McQueen's Personally Owned Persol 714 Folding Sunglasses W/Case From the Estate of Dennis Roberts (Never Previously Offered At Auction) - These sunglasses were personally owned and used by legendary actor "The King of Cool", Steve McQueen. These Persol sunglasses are model number 714, and have a completely foldable design. The glasses have a black frame with brown lenses, and will come in a Persol protective carrying case. McQueen was known nearly as much for his love of vehicles as for his acting, and he often wore Persol sunglasses in films and in life, as the brand is known for their technically advanced glasses, designed to satisfy the demands of pilots and sports drivers who required comfort, protection and optimum vision. A pair of Steve McQueen's Persol 714 sunglasses sold at auction in 2006 for over $70,000, and this pair we are offering have never been previously offered at auction. The glasses originally come from the estate of world famous glass maker to the stars Dennis Roberts, and will be accompanied by a copy of the letter of authenticity from a former employee of Roberts. Steve McQueen (1930-1980) was an American actor, known as "The King of Cool". McQueen's "anti-hero" persona developed at the height of the counterculture of the 1960s and made him a top box-office draw of the 1960s and 1970s. McQueen received an Academy Award nomination for his role in "The Sand Pebbles", and in 1974, he became the highest-paid movie star in the world. As of 2007, McQueen's estate entered the top 10 of highest-earning dead celebrities, and his memorabilia continues to bring record-breaking prices.
