Est. $800,000-$1,500,000 Rufino Tamayo (Mexican; 1899-1991) 1987 "Hombre Gritando a la Luna" Original Signed Gouache on Paper Professionally Framed W/COA & Notarized Deed of Ownership Transfer - This stunningly rare piece is an original gouache on paper painting by prominent Mexican painter, Rufino Tamayo. By the 1930s Tamayo was a prominent figure in the Mexican art scene, and by 1950 exhibited his paintings Venice Biennale, leading to international recognition. He went on to design murals for the National Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City and for UNESCO in Paris. Tamayo returned to Mexico in 1974, where he donated his large collection of pre-Columbian art to the city of Oaxaca, founding the Rufino Tamayo Museum of Pre-Hispanic Art. In 1981 Tamayo and his wife donated to the people of Mexico their collection of international art, which formed the basis for the Rufino Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City. This piece is titled "Hombre Gritando a la Luna", and depicts a man under a quarter moon and a starry night. The piece is signed in the lower right corner, and dated "0-87". The piece measures 16" x 20" (22" x 26" in frame) and is in the original wooden frame under non-glare plexiglass. This is a spectacular investment piece, as Tamayo's works are highly sought after, and continue to bring prices well into the millions at auction. The piece will come with a certificate of authenticity from Bill Martin at the "Instituto De Investigaciones Esteticas" of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Bill Martin is an independent art appraiser, and Godson of Rufino Tamayo. This work will also come with a notarized Deed of Ownership Transfer (which will be provided to the winning bidder for privacy purposes), stating that this work was directly acquired from Mr. Julio Alvarez, who acquired the piece in 1988 as a personal gift from Tamayo.
