Est. $7,500-$9,000 Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) Screen Worn Gorilla Soldier Background Costume W/COA - This costume was worn by a background Gorilla soldier character in the 1970 motion picture “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”. The film was the highly acclaimed sequel to 1968’s “Planet of the Apes”, both of which starred Charlton Heston. The outfit consists of a vinyl purple and black striped vest and purple front buttoned cotton shirt and pants (with label by "Western Costume Co."), and a pair of black gloves with oversized purple vinyl cuffs. The original Western Costume Company label is sewn inside of the vest with the made to order number “2431-1” and size “40” typed in black ink. There were two types of background Gorilla costumes made for the production, ones with leather vests that were used for close up shots, and the vinyl version seen here which were used for background shots. The items are in very good screen worn condition with minor evidence of wear from their use in the film. This costume was acquired by our seller from Brian Penikas, who is known for his work in special effects make up and costumes, with credits on films such as Interstellar (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Jeepers Creepers II (2003). This lot will also come with a certificate of authenticity.
