Est. $1,250-$1,500 David P.H. Wong (Chinese, 1949-) Original Signed Watercolor on Paper Professionally Framed W/Original Signed Pencil Drawing - This is a rare watercolor painting by Chinese artist David P.H. Wong. The painting has been professionally framed, with an offset, original pencil drawing that is also signed by the artist. This unique piece depicts a woman riding a bicycle, while the drawing depicts a woman sitting on the sea shore. David Wong was born in Canton, China, where he began painting at the young age of 8. His great talent was quickly recognized, and he was sent to a school for gifted children. By the age of 15, David was sent to the Canton School of Art, where he became one of the first Chinese artists to paint oils in the traditional Western style. Because the Chinese Government controlled all the media, including all artistic endeavors, David could not paint the subjects he chose or in the style he wanted, so in 1969, in the name of artistic freedom, David was forced to flee from his beloved country. He became a well established artist in Hong Kong, before coming to the U.S. in 1977. This piece (including the frame) measures 22" x 18".
